Sounds Devices MixPre 6 Audio Recorder

The Sound Devices MixPre-6 II is a compact multichannel audio recorder and mixer with four Kashmir preamps. It records to SD cards at up to 32-bit float and 192kHz, and doubles as a USB audio interface.

The Kashmir preamps are very quiet, which means you can record dialogue, ambience and sound effects with confidence. It handles multiple actors, podcast hosts or a small film sound setup in one compact unit. Limiters, low-cut, phase inversion, phantom power, gain and pan are all adjustable, and the 32-bit float recording means a hot take is much less likely to be ruined by clipping.

The converters offer 142dB of dynamic range at 32-bit precision, and recording runs up to 192kHz. It writes to SD media and streams over USB to a computer. Power comes from a computer, mains or AA batteries, and an optional sled takes Sony L-series batteries. Timecode is generated internally or fed in via HDMI or Aux In. The unit weighs 0.56kg without batteries.
