The Rode VideoMic NTG is a compact supercardioid on-camera shotgun microphone that also works as a USB microphone. It covers both a camera shoot and a quick piece to camera or voiceover.
Mounted on the camera shoe, it feeds the camera or a field recorder over its auto-sensing 3.5mm output, which works with either a TRS camera input or a TRRS phone socket without an adaptor. Plugged into a laptop or phone over USB-C, it acts as a self-powered USB mic. Digital controls for the high-pass filter, pad and high-frequency boost are on the body, along with a safety channel and peak warning.
It has a supercardioid pattern and a frequency response of 35Hz to 20kHz, and handles up to 120dB SPL. The aluminium body weighs 94g. An internal lithium-ion battery gives more than 30 hours of recording, so it does not draw power from the camera. The kit includes a shockmount, windshield and the cables needed for camera, computer and phone connections.
