Manfrotto Pro Scrim-Jim - 6ft x 6ft

The Manfrotto Pro Scrim is a lightweight aluminium frame with clip-on fabrics for bouncing, diffusing and flagging light. This is the larger size, about 6.5ft by 6.5ft (2 x 2m), enough to cover a whole key source or a person at full length.

The frame goes together in minutes around an internal elastic cord that keeps the sections together when packed, and the fabrics clip straight onto the frame. Flat, notched metal ears fit the frame and slip into grip heads with 5/8 inch receivers, so the frame mounts on a stand or flies overhead. Three fabrics cover black, bounce and diffusion jobs.

The three fabrics are a black cloth, a reversible silver and white bounce and a 1.25 stop diffusion. The kit weighs around 11kg, so it needs a firmly weighted stand. It is quicker and lighter than a built-up rag frame for most daytime set-ups, though in any wind a frame this size needs sandbags and a second pair of hands.
