The Shure SM7B is a cardioid dynamic microphone for close vocal work in studios, podcasts and voiceover booths. It gives a warm, smooth sound and has been a broadcast and recording standard for years.
The SM7B has a flat, wide-range response with bass roll-off and mid-range emphasis switches, so you can tailor the voice to the room. An internal air suspension system isolates it from mechanical noise, and the shielding rejects hum from computer monitors and lighting. It handles close-up speech, loud talkers and sung vocals without fuss.
The frequency response runs from 50Hz to 20kHz, the pattern is cardioid, and the output is XLR. It weighs 764g, so it needs a proper boom arm or stand. It is a dynamic microphone and has a relatively low output, so it needs a preamp with plenty of clean gain, such as the ones in a Sound Devices MixPre. That makes it a good fit for podcast and interview setups.
